This is merely a test, I wrote a script to find the most recent BBC Newspod and redirect to it. I’ve combined that with the the mp3 player I’ve been using for some clips and we “should” have a player that grabs the newest BBC Newspod each day, it’s here for testing.
The code for this is provided below, it is provided as is with no documentation. At the moment I’m trying to track down the original site for the player I’m using so that i can check the conditions of the license. There are 3 files in the archive (podcast.php, index.php and embed.php)
podcast.php is the library that finds the most recent podcast entry and sets it to $fileURL.
index.php redirects the user to the file’s location.
embed.php generates a player and the location it is not particularly interesting.
UPDATE: the newer version of the flash player that I’m using is actually supporting RSS as a playlist type, so that makes this script not incredibly useful anymore. Although upon further testing I discovered it does not support linking to external RSS feeds so it seems my PHP may still be of some use, plus honestly the new version is quite ugly.
I have a twitter account, if you’re into that kind of thing, I find it kind of interesting to play with, although I currently have no people I actually know using it. I’m using all kinds of ways to change my status including IM, twitterrific, and the twidget widget, the tools are pretty cool especially twitterific. Although I can’t shake the feeling that having a page out on the net that stores what I’m doing at the given moment is a big security nightmare.
The front page for PJIRC IRC chat has been massively overhauled, with more of an emphasis on using CSS to style things and manipulating CSS for hiding and displaying elements. The code is available as always to anyone who would like to request it, merely make a comment on this post and we can work out a way to get it to you. I’m very happy to say the new page is much smaller and the javascript is much faster. I understand that most of you probably won’t even notice the changes, but the performance improvements make me happier.
A sidenote: you’ve probably noticed we’ve moved back to an older theme, it’s a theme I still like a lot due to it’s simplicity and it’s a theme I’ve invested a significant amount of time in customizing it.
