lack of content

there has been a lack of actual content on this site lately and for this i do apologize sincerely, it’s just that between school and some other projects i’m working on, during the summer updates “should” come more often, i have a number of jobs i will be working this summer, but no school, so this should go smoother, in total unrelated news it appears i’ll be removing user friendly functionality for the time being, the person who runs that site (jay thorne) has been very short with me and doesn’t respond to offers of compromise so til i find a way around their weird naming scheme user friendly is out of the loop (this will be in the next widget update which will hopefully come before too long), i’m testing a new setup for the chat engine, please test it and check it out, link is the same it’s located in the sidebar immediately to the left of this post

chat testing

i’m testing a new chat engine interface (i used an existing css sheet and wrote a whole new script for it), it’s still something i’m testing, i’m using an existing engine (PJIRC) for the chat part, the only part i made was the setup script, there is a link to it on the side of the page here in the links column, it can be used for virtually any irc chat room, there is a link on the page that will set things up for my guild wars guild’s settings

auto-x pictures

this sunday we had a local auto-x, here are the pictures me and my good friend dave took at it (more are his than are mine)

wordpress update

if you’re noticing things look a bit different around here that’s because i’ve upgraded to wordpress 1.5 (from 1.22), this current theme i like alot but i’m not quite sure i’ll keep it to be honest, we’ll see, i’m playing with it and seeing what i can do with it, i also plan to reimpliment the theme switcher so the user can select their own theme to go by

widget update

this is the first update for my web comic widget in a long time, it includes a few fixes and a beta test of a new feature.  the fixes consist of just fixing the alignment of some comics, since webcomics change their naming and addressing schemes over time, there is a need to adjust them in my widget as well (death to the extremist and little gamers needed ajustment, i’m doing further testing on the rest of the comics as well), the new feature i’m beta testing with this release is the ability to iterate through comics using the hotkeys alt + q (backward) or alt + w (forward), the transition isn’t fast, and there is unfortunately no way around this for now, parsing out data from comics on the internet takes time for the script to find the comic and to load it into ram and draw the comic, anyways have fun and like always feel free to email me if you find any bugs

mini-reviews (PSP)

lumines may be one of the most addictive puzzle games i’ve ever played, it’s very simple idea and extremely hard to master, i personally am a big fan of puzzle games so lumines has been quite a bit of fun for me (despite my dismal skill in it), the basic idea is that you have a sweeping bar that moves across and removes blocks that are in squares of 2×2 or bigger while not letting the blocks climb up to the top of the screen

untold legends is a pretty average feeling hack and slash rpg, with some serious load time issues, the game itself is quite a bit of fun to play but the whole time you’re playing it you get the feeling that you’ve played it before that it’s a little too familar though this doesn’t hinder playing the game at all it is worth mentioning

ridge racer is easily the best arcade style racing game i’ve ever played it’s fun and easy for anyone to just pick it up and play it, it uses a heavy emphasis on drifting, this is a style that in real life i avoid when racing and even playing sim style racing games i generally avoid drifting, but in ridge racer it is simplified and made quite a bit of fun, it even rewards you for drifting via nitrous boosts, one of the other big things i like about ridge racer is that it has quite a bit of stuff from previous ridge racers, and i personally having owned alot of them (including the original ridge racer launch game for ps1) i really enjoy this bit of nostalgia

wipeout pure is a game that is a lot of fun but it makes you work for it, most people that have played this game just trying to pick it up and play it have been turned off by it, simply because that game is hard and it starts with a pretty harsh learning curve, this is not to say that the game is not a whole lot of fun, it’s just saying that it’s not a game for those with poor thumb coordination, this is game feels far more complete than any of the other psp launch games i’ve played so far, it has a variety of game modes, the robust multiplayer and downloadable content just makes this game feel like they were paitent and did this game right

so to sum up ridge racer is the racing game for everybody, lumines is a new addictive puzzle game, untold legends is a generic feeling but fun hack and slash and wipeout is a futuristic racing game that’s a bit more for the advanced gamers
